When should the Paulownia be planted
Paulownia planting date
Our Paulownia seedlings are available with green leaf composition in the plant containers. These young plants are very susceptible to frosts and should only be planted if no late frosts are expected.
In most parts of Germany the so-called "Ice Saints", in mid-May, have become proved as good benchmark before which you should not plant out seedlings. Here, attention has to be paid to the regional characteristics.
Two year old Paulownia seedlings with no visible green leaf dimensions can however be planted earlier as the container plants. Since these Paulownien are still in hibernation, they do not have a sensitive young tissues and are also hardened over the winter.
Container plants can be planted throughout the year after that, if still enough vegetation days remain in order for them to be able to take root in the new location. Everything depends on the local conditions, but generally it can be said that plantations should not be performed later than than the beginning of July.
Normally, the young Paulownia, especially the seedlings, are showing only a small above-ground growth in the first few weeks after planting. This is a specific feature of Paulownia, it initially puts much of its vigor in the development of its root system in the first year of planting. Paulownias draw the force for their rapid growth from this strong root system afterwards.
